Hi there…
We are Jo and Nat, two researchers united by a shared focus: helping the next generation move well, and learn well.
One of us began as a classroom teacher, seeing first-hand how movement shapes confidence, engagement and participation. The other has spent her career researching motor skill development and physical literacy across large-scale school and community settings. Over time, our work converged through collaborative research, system-level projects and a shared belief that movement is not peripheral to education — it is foundational.
For more than 20 years, our research has examined how fundamental movement skills influence health, learning and long-term participation. We have led and contributed to major research programs, partnered with schools and systems, and published in leading journals in the field.
But we don’t believe research should sit on a shelf.
Active Edge was created to translate that evidence into practical tools that support teachers in real classrooms. Our technology is designed to complement professional judgement — helping educators assess, plan and implement movement development with confidence and consistency.
We’re delighted you’re here to join us on our journey to ensure every school have The ActiveEdge!

ActiveEdge’s Approach
We believe movement is foundational to learning and wellbeing. We are committed to rigorous evidence, thoughtful design and meaningful implementation. Our work prioritises clarity over complexity, collaboration over assumption, and long-term impact over short-term attention.
Scientific integrity
We hold ourselves to high research standards and communicate impact responsibly
Teachers as partners
We design with educators and build tools that strengthen, not replace, professional expertise.
Responsible innovation
We scale carefully, test rigorously and prioritise long-term benefit over rapid growth
